Notes on the Artwork: A dreamlike, painterly bouquet of flowers sitting in a patterned vase. The presence of the human-hand is obvious and celebrated, as well as the abstracted-nature of each flower as it appears out of the suspended paintmarks. This painting is part of an ongoing series of laser cut wooden flowers and wildflower landscapes. Each design is hand-drawn, digitised and then laser cut before painting. Inspired by contemporary still-life painting and referencing the Victorian obsession with collecting and categorising, the bouquet sits suspended within a tray frame, at odds with the expressive freedom of wildflowers, but casting its floral shadows freely.
