Notes on the Artwork: The scene depicts an imagined beach just metres from the viewpoint of the painting. Inspired by a longing for escapism and retreat, the trees act as a threshold, anchoring the viewer in the foreground while inviting them to step into the scene beyond. A strong sense of movement flows through the painting, with deliberate markmaking that conveys the swaying of trees and foliage, while guiding the viewer’s eye through the composition.
