Notes on the Artwork: ‘A pensierino—literally “a little thought”—was a common assignment in Italian primary schools when I was growing up. We were asked to write a short paragraph about a meaningful moment from the past few days, an exercise meant to develop our writing skills. Standing at the blackboard, chalk in hand, we would read our words aloud to the entire class, exposed to either praise or ridicule. I remember that experience as one of vulnerability, tinted with shame and confusion, and marked by a deep sense of disconnection from myself. This piece returns to that early innocence and openness of heart, where a child recounts a real event, while gradually revealing a more difficult and painful truth about my journey with dysphoria and gender identity.'
