Notes on the Artwork: This portrait features James McLeod, also known as “That Vitiligo Guy,” who developed vitiligo as a baby. Despite facing bullying and self-doubt as a child, James has become a force of positivity, dedicating his life to promoting self-love and inclusivity. Through his work, he inspires others to overcome insecurities and embrace their individuality, encouraging a message of resilience and pride.
Claire Le Day, a self-taught portrait artist and practising doctor, is passionate about blending art and medicine to empower others and foster a sense of beauty and impartiality. She aims to address unconscious biases in healthcare and celebrate diversity. She was deeply inspired by James’ message of self-acceptance, particularly his pride in his “mini heart” — a distinct patch of pigmentation — and his invitation for viewers to find their own skin tone in his face. As a devoted colourist, Claire captured a still from one of James’ videos, drawn to both his story and his unique “mini heart.”
