Notes on the Artwork: 'The Northern Crown Nova is one of my larger pieces, and it’s inspired by that final, brilliant moment when a star collapses and scatters the building blocks of life across the dark. To capture that energy, I used recycled yarns that have had their own "past lives," mirroring how a supernova acts as the universe’s way of hitting the reset button—using an explosive death to create new nebulae, stars, and planets.
By stitching these textures into custom-printed velvet made from my own photography of the night sky, I wanted to turn a massive, violent cosmic event into something tactile and approachable. The colours throughout the piece are an approximation of the hues found in the Northern Crown constellation, which you can see most clearly in the northern hemisphere around June. It’s really just my way of making a distant, monumental explosion feel a little more human.'
