Floating Orange

"I originally created this piece for the RA Summer Exhibition this year, the given theme being 'Space'. I enjoy painting detailed fruits so I decided to paint a lone orange. I purposely placed the orange just off centre, and without any surrounding shadows to give the illusion of it floating on the canvas. As I continued to work on the piece, I chose to add the dark blue/ black surround, to add another element of space... From a way off, the orange could be mistaken for a planet."
