Notes on the artwork: ''Cruel to be Kind” is based on a photograph of myself around the age of 12—hovering in that liminal stage just before adolescence, when the world begins to shift in unfamiliar ways. I wanted the painting to evoke a sense of nostalgia, innocence, and emotional tension. While the original photograph showed me staring up at a fish-shaped balloon, its inclusion here is symbolic as well—a quiet nod to my parental anxiety about climate change.'
