Notes on the Artwork: Affirmation II is the development of an initial concept created for a commission. The mark-making was originally based on a series of gestural drawings made during music rehearsals with conductor Marin Alsop. This painting includes not only the multiple layering of gesso as paint but also the addition of gloss varnish used to add depth and more movement. The painting now changes according to the light and to the movement of the viewer. The more you look, the more you see.
