Notes on the Artwork: Matt Greenwood is a photographer and visual artist based in Margate, UK. Since 2015, he has been developing ‘The Plastic Bag’, a photographic project documenting his growing archive of more than 1,500 single-use plastic bags from around the world. His work combines playful, sculptural imagery with an exploration of sustainability, waste, design history, and overlooked everyday objects.

Inspired by classical sculpture, Matt’s work explores the contrast between permanence and impermanence. Through photography, he creates what he describes as ‘temporary sculptures,’ capturing plastic bags in sculptural forms and giving these everyday objects the visual presence usually reserved for traditional sculpture.
