Following on from the success of its annual summer Rejects Exhibition, and a collaboration with the Royal Society of Art, Art Friend Gallery is embarking on a new pop-up residency on the historic Columbia Road, Bethnal Green, from 23 October – 23 November. They will be presenting two vibrant exhibitions, beginning with Pause; a solo show featuring new work from Marie Lenclos, followed by The Living Room, which will present a showcase of emerging and established artists from the Art Friend Roster in an immersive home-from-home experience.
Pause - Marie Lenclos
Born in Paris, but based in South London, Marie Lenclos is an artist known for her striking urban landscapes. With a background in documentary filmmaking, she has a gift for framing the city with thoughtful composition. Her playfulness with light gives each painting a unique energy, while her harmonious colour palette and strong sense of structure bring the architecture to life.
Marie will be exhibiting a brand new body of work inspired by the local area. The exhibition will bring together 20 oil paintings, capturing the streetscapes, buildings, and urban details in and around Columbia Road, a street famous for its beautiful architecture and lively flower market. Discover beautiful sites and vistas of East London through Marie’s lens, with views from Wellington Row, a new perspective of Arnold Circus and streets hidden near Hoxton Station.
Her streets appear empty and still, creating a dreamlike atmosphere - like London paused for a moment of calm. These works invite us to look again at the familiar with a new perspective, offering moments of reflection amidst the usual chaos of the city with a quiet sense of nostalgia.
